I’ve been writing short responses to my days experiences – things heard and seen, news delivered – since Decembeer 1, 2023. The plan is to keep it going until Decembeer 24. This discipline is enjoyable and helps focus my mind on the writing and whatever it is that has grabbed my attention.
EACH DAY UNTIL XMAS
DAY 1.
DECEMBER 1.
The day that Shane McGowan died
I didn’t know his work.
He was Irish and was
Fed on Guinness from his birth.
Lawlessness is what it means
To write and live and sing like this.
No wonder he was missing
In the places of fine dining.
DECEMBER 2
Who roves with the Irish
In the killing field silence
Or roams in the mountains of gold?
In the enclaves of wealth
With indulgence stacked deep
Will be those who
cheered Kissinger on.
The voices who shouted
Down the years of distress
Are returned as plaster cast likeness.
DECEMBER 3
Flying bombs from computers
Robots cast as men
While men are cast aside
And children.
And their mothers.
No time for reflection
In these value vacuums.
The world must know
That we are gods
and God’s
So we kill in “his” name to justify
A false dream
A damning spirituality.
